I hate to admit this...

I hate to admit this...

I know I swore I would never, ever miss Fargo-Moorhead, but I kind of do. I don't know if it has more to do with actually liking the FM area or the loathing of my present surroundings, but I've been thinking about it lately and when I do, I almost feel like I'm missing home. I guess I did spend six really good years there. Compared with where I live now, all the things I complained about when I lived there are now quite appealing, and I miss them. Or I miss being able to complain about them. For the record, I am not completely insane-- I do not miss Fargo winters. 30 below, windchills, the way the way they don't salt the roads but buff them instead, thinking it's almost over in March but then seeing it snow in April... nope, don't miss that. But there are other things, which I will compile into a brief list that will not be relevant to anyone other than Cobbers:

5. The Moorhead library. I bet now that they moved Churches United and all the homelesses there's a lot fewer people passed out in the newspaper section.

4. The giant trees on 4th and 5th streets in Moorhead. It sounds like a weird thing to miss, but they just line the streets so nicely. I would always take the one ways to avoid...

3. ...driving down 8th St. past Concordia at 15 mph behind people trying to make a left into the library lot, or stuck behind the ditzy freshman in the VW Bug her dad bought her who just rear ended the tattooed chick in Army boots in the '86 Grand Prix with an MSU sticker.

2. My ghetto apartment. I went from living in a ghetto apartment in a nice neighborhood to living in a nice house in the ghetto.

1. Mick's Office on a Saturday night. I can just hear the chorus to "Sweet Caroline"...
