As I previously mentioned, Jacob and Bean are visiting the grandparents in MN and ND. It's always fun when cute kid stories make their way down to us, such as the kids going to a wedding, dancing with each other at the reception, and remembering to take a bow for the crowd when they were done. There have been two cute quick stories that I'm just going to make note of here so that I remember them much later when I need to make fun of him for something :)
Story #1:
The background here is that one of my grandmothers is in declining mental health. This has been causing a lot of stress within my family living in MN as they cope with the effects of her compromised decision making. Many of the problems have to do with financial matters, since she has gone through a couple of crises in the last few months that have been... stressful. So no doubt some of these things must have been discussed in front of the kids, since during a visit with Great-Grandma, Jacob decided to inform her,
"My grandma says you are spending all your money foolishly!"
For better or for worse (you be the judge), it was the wrong grandma. Instead of my maternal grandmother, who is actually having the problems, he decided to lob this one at my dad's mom who is decidedly fiscally responsible and probably wondered why my mother was saying such things about her. Yet another lesson in guarding what we say around the kids, since evidently they will only pick up on the most inappropriate thing possible to repeat.
Story #2:
At Tom's parents house, they were running errands one day and stopped at the bank. Jacob asked where they were, and Grandma explained that a bank was a place where people kept their money and they were going to stop and pick some up. She asked him, "Don't your parents ever stop at the bank to pick up money?"
To which my son replied, "No. At our house we work for our money".
Take that, freeloadin' Grandma.
