Conversations with the Jake

This morning's gem:

"Mama, who's this?" (Holds up a quarter.)

"That's George Washington. He was the first President of the United States."

"The United States?"

"Yes, that's the country we live in. A country is bigger than a city. He was the very first President of our country."

"Mama, presidents go like this" (holds up his arms and does quote marks a la Richard Nixon.)

"Um, well, Richard Nixon goes like that. He's a different president."

(Looks at the back of the quarter, which features West Virginia.) "Is this where George Washington lives?"

"Well, he's dead now, but when he was alive he lived in Virginia."

"Did robots kill him?"

"No, honey, he got old and died."

(Looks worried.)

--A few minutes later, pondering his quarter--

"Mama, this is George Washington. He was a prick." "President." "President. He lives in Ginny on a money. He has two arms to hit people. And we're all going to be robots."
