Dexter

Dexter came to us as a puppy, so he is a little bit like our "biological" furbaby among adoptees. He was born in March of 2008 and we brought him home at six weeks old. He went to puppy kindergarten and an extended "puppy boot camp", and knows commands like "sit", "lay down", and "stay". He knows how to behave, but needs frequent reminders when he is outside since he tends to think of the backyard as "his". He loves to play fetch and go for walks, and will also run/rollerblade with someone who can keep up with him!

Inside the house he's a huge bum and just wants to lay around and sleep. Dexter can be rambunctious, but is mostly interested in napping and being adored-- a true Boxer. He is not always cautious around very small children and has been known to accidentally knock them down when he thinks it's playtime. However, he is very tolerant of kids climbing, pulling, poking, kicking, etc. and has never growled at, nipped, or bitten anyone. Dexter does fine with other medium/large dogs (unless they get more attention than him) but does seem to enjoy chasing cats and very tiny dogs. He loves his toys and does not chew on things he's not supposed to. Dexter is neutered and up to date on all shots and heartworm/flea medicine.

I frequently refer to Dexter as a "butthead", but he's my butthead and I love him. I'm going to miss him a lot and I like to think he'll miss me too... but he's kind of self-centered and may not notice as long as someone is there to scratch his belly and give him a treat. For Dexter, we're looking for a long-term dogsitter or forever home if parting with him is too much after having him for a long time. He's a great cuddle buddy, a terrible guard dog (usually remembering to bark five minutes after you've answered the door) and an all around pal who eats your food and occasionally gets on your nerves. He's a sucker for a pillow and a blankie, but will willingly sleep in his crate too :)
